Health & Medical Sciences Postgraduates & Researchers: Performing a ’Scoping Search’ to check the validity of your proposed research question

Once you have decided on the question for your dissertation/research paper you should perform a scoping search to:

  • (If you’re planning to perform a Systematic Review), check that a review covering the same question doesn’t already exist or is in progress.
  • Check how much research is currently available relating to your question. This may help you decide to broaden or narrow your question.

This workshop will provide a demonstration of how to perform a scoping search using recommended resources such as PROSPERO; the Cochrane Library; TRIP and databases within the EBSCOhost and Ovid Online platforms.
